PLAYER ELIGIBILITY AND TEAM ORGANIZATION RULES
BOYS DIVISION
All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys are eligible to play Kiwanis Basketball. There are two separate leagues for boys: 6th grade and combined 7/8 grade. All team members must attend the host school. Any exceptions must be approved by the Kiwanis Basketball Committee.
GIRLS DIVISION
All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls are eligible to play Kiwanis Basketball. There are two separate leagues for girls: 6th grade and combined 7/8 grade. All team members must attend the host school. Any exceptions must be approved by the Kiwanis Basketball Committee.
TEAM COMPOSITION
Teams are to be composed of students of the same grade level attending the same school. Teams must have a minimum of 8 players. It is recommended that each team have 10 players. Teams of more than 12 players are discouraged, but permitted. All teams must have an adult coach.
School Affiliation: We want Kiwanis basketball to be a positive experience for all of those involved. Our goal is for the teams to be competitive and to avoid large disparities in the skill levels between teams as much as is reasonable. We do not want Kiwanis Basketball to be a practice ground for AAU teams. Therefore, we require that teams be composed of students attending the same school. We also do not want any student desiring to play to be excluded from the program.
The Kiwanis Basketball Committee will grant exceptions to this rule on an individual basis for students who are unable to organize a team at their school and for home schooled students. Small schools may also be allowed to have mixed-grade teams under certain circumstances. All exceptions to these rules must be approved by the Kiwanis Basketball Committee. If you are requesting an exception or have any questions email us at [email protected].
PRACTICE TIME
It is the responsibility of each team to arrange for gym time for practice. Contact your local schools to make arrangements.
